Lessons for Popular Instruments
Drum Lessons
(ages 4 and up)
What will I learn from drum lessons at the school?
The possibilities are endless but it all starts with your passions. What bands and genres do you love? We'll get you started by breaking down your favorite songs and learning the skills needed to play them. Along the way, you'll be encouraged to expand your ability to read and write drum parts, learn to improvise, and improve technique with all 4 limbs. Gerald plays alongside his students as often as possible so you also gain the experience of performing with others during every visit.
What styles of drumming do you teach?
You name it, it can be taught here! There really is no limit to what styles you can learn at Norwalk School of Music. We can focus on your favorite genre by analyzing and playing along to songs through the high definition audio system or work with various method books that will lead you through many of the most popular styles. The choice is always yours.
Overview
Norwalk School of Music is equipped with top of the line professional drum gear for all students to enjoy. Rock, hip-hop, gospel, jazz, funk, Latin, marching percussion, and many other styles are taught here. Lessons are custom tailored to each student's preferences, abilities and musical goals.
What's makes Norwalk School of Music the best choice for drum lessons?
The drum equipment is better than any other music school in the area. Many drummers dream of the opportunity to record in a state-of-the-art studio. You can live the dream every week. Norwalk School of Music is a learning center and recording studio combined. Learn with a teacher who has a long list of national achievements as a player and teacher. Work together to craft a lesson plan that fits your individual needs and favorite types of music. Whenever the mood hits, use your lesson time for a recording session to document your achievement. Choose audio only or a full fledged video shoot , complete with multiple HD cameras. Whether you're already playing in local bands, an 8-year-old taking their first lesson, or "60-years-young" returning to the drums after a long break, we’ll set goals to achieve your musical aspirations.
Do I need to buy a drum set to begin lessons?
You don't need to buy drums to get started. Many students start out with a pair of sticks and a drum pad (a $25 investment). That will give you plenty to keep busy. Drummers interested in marching drumline may never need to buy anything beyond those 2 items. However, you should look into investing in a drum set if you want to learn the instrument. The best drum equipment is always available for you to play in the music studio but your progress at home will be much slower without a basic drum kit to practice on regularly.
